Upon graduation from high school, George decided to dedicate his life to the family business and set-off for Fresno State University’s Viticulture and Enology program to supplement his knowledge of traditional winemaking techniques with the more modern aspects required to produce wines for today’s marketplace. After earning his degree in 1969, George and his father began implementing many new ideas into the family business. This period saw an introduction of new refrigerated stainless steel fermentation tanks and small oak cooperage, as well as the production of the winery’s first premium varietal wine--a 1969 estate-bottled Petite Sirah.

George’s winemaking philosophy remains a blend of age-old tradition and cutting-edge winemaking science and technology. George produces his wines with minimal handling or filtering--believing that the wines are at their best when allowed to develop naturally with only the necessary interventions by the winemaker. He shares his family’s strong belief that wines should be easy for everyone to enjoy at a reasonable price. His philosophy has paid off in the many award-winning wines he produces today that have been noted for both quality and value.

The heart and soul of Guglielmo wines, George is very involved with family, as well as many community organizations. He is a well-known fixture around Morgan Hill with his classic 1957 cherry-red Chevy Cameo Pickup.
